Be a Christ-Centered Educator in Mathematics.
In the Mathematics Secondary Education program, you will become qualified and learned
how to effectively introduce math concepts to students from 6-12th grade. From a Christian
understanding, you'll learn how to incorporate Jesus into every aspect of teaching
and life. This program is consistent with the recommendations of Mathematical Association of America, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences.
Students desiring Michigan certification are responsible for meeting all certification
requirements of the Michigan Department of Education and the State Board of Education,
whether or not they are explicitly stated in the SAU catalog. Secondary certification
allows graduates to teach in his or her major or minor disciplines for grades six
through twelve.
Key Courses
Students in the Mathematics Secondary Education major will demonstrate quantitative literacy. Students will analyze and apply mathematic concepts and theories from the two major strands of mathematics: pure/classical mathematics and applied mathematics.

What our students say about the Mathematics Secondary Education program
"Dr. Wagner was hands down the most supportive instructor, making class interesting with his profound passion for math. He delved deep into every question, showing genuine investment in our mathematical growth. My appreciation for math has grown immensely; I now understand its complexity and the profound ability of mathematicians to make sense of seemingly impossible concepts."
