Dual Enrollment vs. Dual Credit

It is important to know there is a difference between dual enrollment and dual credit. Dual enrollment is earning college credit while you are still enrolled in high school. Dual credit is having your Spring Arbor course credits apply to your high school credit requirements. If you're interested in earning dual credits, please contact your high school to make certain they are approving dual credit.

Admissions Requirements

High School Dual Enrollment students must:

  • Be in high school grade or equivalent
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0
  • Designate a school official or parent as a mentor.

Applicants should submit the following materials:

Dual enrollment students must earn grades of “C” or better in order to remain in the program.

Semester Deadlines

Fall Term - August 15th | Spring Term - January 15th

The approximate deadline to sign up for courses is two weeks before the start of the course. For a list of available courses and the application, please contact the Dual Enrollment Coordinator

Dual Enrollment Cost

High school students might have the option of having the costs of dual enrollment tuition and fees covered by the State of Michigan. Connect with your high school guidance counselor or SAU’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator to find out if you qualify for this opportunity.

Average cost per credit hour (for students with high school sponsorship):

$170 per credit hour with a semester technology/registration fee of $103

To limit out-of-pocket expense to students, SAU's dual enrollment program costs have been aligned with the State of Michigan Dual Enrollment Calculation Worksheet available on the Michigan Department of Education website. The cost of dual enrollment tuition is subject to change each year based on the State of Michigan's Dual Enrollment Budget amounts.

If your high school is approved for funding from the state, you may receive no out-of-pocket expense (except for book costs or course fees). For students attending a high school that hasn't been approved for state funding, the cost is a discounted “per credit hour” charge.

Spring Arbor University Transcripts

All Spring Arbor University course grades will be sent to the student’s high school at the end of the semester for the high school records.  If a student needs to request an official transcript to be sent to another institution, they can do so at our request a transcript page.
