Biography

Like many things in life, where I began is not where I ended. Originally, I did not plan to be a counselor when finishing high school, thinking I would do something with art, like Graphic Design or be an art teacher. God had other plans and led me to the counseling program at Great Lakes Christian College. I haven’t looked back since! Although art is still a hobby of mine, I absolutely love what I do in the mental health field.

After finishing undergrad, I worked as a case manager at a community agency in Tennessee for 3 years, during which I completed my master’s degree in Counseling: Marriage and Family Therapy. The city received a federal grant that contracted mental health workers from that agency into the school system. I spent the next 3 years as a child and youth counselor in two elementary schools, working with kids, their families, and school staff/teachers. Beginning my doctoral program in Counselor Education, brought us back to Michigan. Here I worked in private practice as a counselor and supervisor for over 10 years. My journey with Spring Arbor began 6 years ago, first as an adjunct, then as full-time faculty for the last 4. I have loved seeing how God can bring healing and wholeness to someone, and now I am thrilled to help nourish the growth of the next generation of counselors.

I live in Portage, MI, with my two daughters (14 and 8-years-old). They are my joy, and I love spending time with them. I also enjoy any creative endeavor like singing, drawing, and crafting. My favorite hobby, though, is aerial dancing on silks.
