Rooted in Service: SAU's Impact on Light and Life Park

Spring Arbor University (SAU) dedicates a strong commitment to service. This was especially evident in the partnership with Light and Life Park this past January, where over 850 hours of service were dedicated by students and staff. After Hurricane Milton’s destruction in the area, SAU’s support became even more impactful. They stepped in to help with essential repairs, bringing hope to the community and its residents as they worked to recover from the disaster. This highlights SAU’s commitment to making a lasting difference and bringing hope and healing to those in need.
Transformative Projects
Throughout their time serving at Light and Life Park, the students contributed to projects that directly impacted over 80 residents, and they were able to connect with more than 25 alumni. These efforts not only improved the physical space but also fostered a deeper sense of community and brought hope throughout the park. The projects included painting, repairs, yard work, cleaning, flooring, clearing drywall, outreach, and skirting.
More Than Just a Service Trip
For many students, the service trip was about more than just the work—it offered personal growth, new friendships, and a deeper faith. Students returned with new skills and a broader understanding of serving others. Kobe Blanco, a General Studies major from the class of 2025, shared his experience.
“My time in Lakeland, Florida was not what I expected. I got to meet some incredible people who either were from another group helping out or a victim from Hurricane Milton. These people shared with me their testimonies and what I learned from this is that God has many experiences for us and many of them we won’t understand until much later in our lives. Another thing that happened to me was that I learned many new skills. I learned how to hang up drywall, mud, sand, and put in insulation. Lastly, I became closer to other Spring Arbor students. There are many people who I've never seen on campus before, and now I’ve spent a whole week with them. It was an incredible experience!”
A Legacy of Service and Connection
SAU’s work at Light and Life Park reflects its core values of servant leadership and lifelong learning. The project created meaningful connections between students and alumni, reinforcing the university's mission. The impact of the trip will continue to shape both the students and the communities they serve. Spring Arbor University remains committed to being Rooted in Service, ensuring that its students and alumni continue to bring light and hope wherever they go.
