For Brenna Feld, her journey at Spring Arbor University has been one of discovery, development, and deepening her faith. As a Criminal Justice major with a Psychology minor, she initially envisioned herself working in the field. However, after taking the Honors COR 200 class with Professors Nick Pollak and Matthew Winner from the Social Work department, she felt God nudging her in a different direction—toward a Master's in Social Work (MSW).

Being from Troy, Michigan, Brenna knew she wanted to attend a tightly knit college - having previously attended a high school with nearly 2,000 students. SAU was the very first school that she visited from start to finish - just before the COVID lockdown - and felt embraced by a community that would shape her in incredible ways.

“This community has shaped me as a human being. So many people have guided me and have encouraged my development," she says.

Academically, Brenna valued the knowledge, connections, and experience she gained from the Criminal Justice department. With the guidance of faculty like Professor Adamo, she learned important lessons that have prepared her for a successful career ahead. Inspired by her own insights, she founded the Criminal Justice Student Association, offering students a forum to assist one another through academics, internships, job searching, and networking, saying, "I wanted to give back to underclassmen, help them make good decisions the way people helped me.”

Brenna's enthusiasm for service didn't stop at school. She is a mentor for Action Jackson, an outreach program where SAU students mentor children in Jackson. Her commitment earned her the position of Mentor Coordinator, which she enjoyed as much as it meant to her. Her leadership development continued in Campus Safety, where she worked for three years and earned the position of Lieutenant. This experience built her team building skills, and she found joy in supporting the Chief Officer in refining the form and bonding between the department.

In addition to academics and leadership, music has been a big part of her college experience. Brenna has been a part of both the Gospel Choir and Concert Choir, cherishing every opportunity to perform and tour around Michigan. With such a wide range of passions, Brenna has learned the art of time management and the importance of balance.

“My college experience made me realize that despite being an organized person, it’s important to find a healthy balance between making commitments and acknowledging the importance of rest.” She attributes this learning experience to the friendships, mentors, chapels, worship nights, and Bible studies that continuously reminded her to strengthen her relationship with God.

"I have found friends and mentors here who have made the challenges more bearable and meaningful."

Her passion for city engagement and travel evolved through exposure as a student leader on the COR 200 Chicago trips. These trips not only intensified her excitement about traveling to new places but also cemented her passion to make a positive difference in underprivileged communities.

After graduation, Brenna hopes to pursue her MSW at Spring Arbor University, working in a department which is already so dear to her. She also hopes to be able to continue serving the university in a professional capacity.

"Once I graduate, I want to be a person that wholeheartedly gives back to the university!"

At first, she was willing to jump straight into the job market, but now with the clarity of God's calling in her life, she deems this next step as a way of making a lasting impact where she is.

Brenna had a simple yet impactful motto: "Seize opportunities!" She shares how pivotal it is to take the initiative and get involved in the community—this will push you to grow and help you discover your path in life. Coming to college can be intimidating, but the support you find here will be the difference maker.

And on that note, Brenna leaves one more message for students and future Cougars: "When you have support to lean on, you can do anything—and you'll truly enjoy your time here instead of just letting the four years pass you by."

Her journey has evidently been a testament to what it means to grow deep roots. She came into college with seeds of faith and aspirations, which were nurtured by the community, nourished through her studies, and deepened in her walk with God.

We wish Brenna fulfillment and success on her future endeavours!
