Showcasing Student Creativity and Art

Here at Spring Arbor University, student creativity shines through a wide variety of campus activities that allow students to connect with one another and get involved with the things they care about. As college students, sometimes work and studies can take up most of our time. Taking a break from the daily tasks to get involved and let our creative sides show is a great way to grow deep connections and take advantage of all the opportunities SAU has to offer us. These activities are a great way to showcase your own creativity and connect with the community.
Ganton Art Gallery
The Ganton Art Gallery displays student and community members' art work, ranging from
paintings, drawings, photography, and more. Our photography, studio art, and graphic
design majors spend class and personal time working on projects to present. The gallery
is more than a place where students can show off their creativity and hard work, it’s
an inviting place where students can engage with the stories behind each piece. Here,
creativity is shown through many different lenses, and encourages all of its viewers
to get inspired.
Music Department
The music department hosts a large range of musical activities for students. Whether
you’re a music major or someone who just enjoys the art of it, you can find a way
to get involved. The gospel choir is an all are welcomed organization that sings traditional,
uplifting songs to worship God and build community. Jazz band offers students the
opportunity to play their instruments in a creative, expressive style that opens students
up to creative processes. Seniors are required to perform recitals where they can
practice performing in front of a crowd and show their peers the growth they’ve made
while at SAU. All are welcomed to watch and seek inspiration from the seniors. Musical
Theatre Factory is a theatre group that pulls songs from different musicals and puts
them together to make one theme. This production takes place in the fall/winter and
is a great way for students who enjoy being on stage to participate in music.
Will Shoot For Credit
Where lights, camera, and action takes place, there is Will Shoot for Credit. Will
Shoot for Credit is a club where students divide up into teams and compete against
each other to make the best short film. This club spends a whole semester brainstorming,
auditioning for acting roles, setting the scene, recording, and editing videos that
are displayed to the whole campus at the end of each semester. Will Shoot for Credit
is a great way for students interested in videography, acting, and editing to get
involved and learn something about the production world.
Shop Talk
On the second to last Friday of every month, the Communication, Media, and Fine Arts
Department holds a Shop Talk in the Art Building. Hosted by the dean of the department,
Dorie Shelby, Shop Talk offers students the opportunity to learn about their majors
and the professional fields they can go into after graduation. A guest speaker, usually
an SAU alumni, presents their professional life stories to the audience to inspire
students as they work towards graduation. This is a place that offers students the
chance to ask questions, network, and build community with the people in their department.
At Spring Arbor University, we want our students to showcase their art and creativity. We’re excited for you to take advantage of all the creative opportunities available to get involved on campus!
