If you are the kind of student who loves to be active, meet new people, and deepen your faith, I have some opportunities for you! I considered playing college tennis but decided it would be too time-consuming.  I still wanted to get involved, so instead, I explored the various clubs that Spring Arbor has to offer.  Whether you love sports, enjoy being with people, or have a passion for learning, there is a club for you!

Action Jackson

Action Jackson is a mentoring program that helps “at-risk” kids in the surrounding Jackson area.  A kid is paired with two college students, and one day a week, they spend two hours together.  Some days, it may include academic tutoring; on other days, you might just do something fun, like going to the movies.  I have been involved with Action Jackson for three years now, and every year we’ve had the same kid; how cool is that!  This has allowed for significant growth in our relationship and enabled us to make a big difference in our mentee’s life.  Action Jackson is a great way to get involved if you love kids.

Will Shoot for Credit

Will Shoot for Credit is a semester-long course and club that works through the process of brainstorming, writing, producing, directing, and editing short films.  Even if you are not a film or video major, it’s a super fun group to join!  The professors are very welcoming to all, and by the end, you will know all the aspects of creating a short film from beginning to end.  I have been in WSFC for three semesters with my friends, and we’ve produced films we’re very proud of.  The best part is seeing all your hard work pay off at the Will Shoot for Credit premiere at the end of each semester.  The entire campus is invited to the auditorium to see all the student films.  It’s a red-carpet event, and there’s always popcorn, candy, and fun mocktail drinks!

Disc Golf Club

Disc golf is my favorite sport by far!  When I came to Spring Arbor, this club did not exist.  My friend saw an interest in disc golf among many students on campus, and he brought it to life.  That’s the cool thing about Spring Arbor: if you have an interest of any kind and there isn’t already a club for it, you can start one!  The disc golf club got lots of attention and grew into a club team.  Three other guys and I played in regional college disc golf tournaments and qualified for the National tournament two years in a row.  We made it a road trip and traveled down to South Carolina, and both years it has been such a blast.  Many memories were made that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.  If it’s not disc golf that interests you, try starting a club yourself.  The opportunities are endless.
