Your exploration of the liberal arts at SAU will enrich your literary adventures within the English major.
Key Courses
English majors will articulate key components of literature and literary history, demonstrate writing competence across contexts, and think critically. They will analyze texts from a Christian worldview and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Graduates will be prepared for careers in fields such as advertising, marketing, ministry, public relations, and law, as well as roles directly related to their studies.
What our students say about the English program
“The English Department at SAU has nurtured my ability for critical thinking and has helped me to cultivate new ideas outside of my comfort zone. I’ve really enjoyed my classes, especially literary criticism, which has made me a better writer and interpreter. I like how the small class sizes give us one-on-one time with professors, who are all good at catering to students and keep Jesus as our focus.”
Thomas Gannon, Class of 2028School of Humanities
The School of Humanities is where students explore what it means to be human through literature, philosophy, languages, and culture. This school fosters thoughtful inquiry, persuasive communication, and a commitment to truth, preparing students to think critically and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
