Illuminating the Past
At Spring Arbor University, our History Secondary Education program prepares you to teach history, politics, and geography with a biblical perspective. Through engaging discussions, original research, and cross-cultural experiences, you’ll explore ancient, medieval, and modern civilizations, analyzing their relevance to current events. Our faculty will guide you in examining history through the lens of scripture, equipping you to inspire future generations.
Key Courses
Students in the history major will articulate an understanding of the development of ancient, medieval, and modern civilizations. Students will demonstrate skills in analysis and evaluation of the past as sources of critical inquiry into the nature of current issues. Students will be prepared to take the subject area teacher certification test and teach in secondary schools in the state of Michigan.
What our students say about the History Secondary Education program
“One thing I love about being a History Secondary Education program student is that SAU approaches education differently from other schools. You get to observe and sit in on classrooms at the elementary, middle and high school levels right away to give you an idea of what it truly means to be a Christ-like teacher.”
