Biography

Dr. Caryn Mays was born and raised in Colorado. She was surrounded by a mathematically minded family, which led her to pursue a math teaching degree at Carson-Newman University in TN. After graduating, she then proceeded to teach high school math for a year and a half before she decided she wanted to return to school to follow the adventure of getting a PhD and, Lord willing, teach college students. That dream came true and after graduating from Western Michigan University in 2023, she was hired at Clemson University as a lecturer.

In 2025, God called her back to Michigan to join the mathematics department here at SAU.

In her free time, Dr. Mays enjoys reading, crocheting, solving puzzles, playing piano, and spending time at her parents' beautiful pond.

Education

PhD, Mathematics, Western Michigan University

B.A., Mathematics Education, Carson-Newman University

Why SAU

Having been raised in a Christian home and having attended a small Christian liberal arts undergrad, my heart's desire was to teach at a similar Christian school where teaching math and sharing my testimony were both part of the job description.

God opened doors for me to work at SAU in ways that only He could and I have been so blessed by the community here.
