Biography

I was born and raised on a grape farm in the Central Valley of California. I worked in packing houses and vineyards and was always very close to nature and agriculture. My father was a farmer, and my mother worked in education and civil service. I have an older sister who is a construction engineer and lives in Steamboat, CO, and a twin brother who is pastor of the Living Hope Church Free Methodist Church in West Unity, OH.  I have been married to Carolyn Oskam Buratovich for 30 years and have three grown daughters, Rachel (sushi chef & writer), Anastasia (financial analyst), and Emily (food scientist). I came to SAU in 1999.

Why SAU

Spring Arbor Township reminds me of home – it has many farms and a small-town feel. SAU fulfilled my desire to work at a place that took the Gospel seriously in mind and practice. It has been a wild ride and very much worth it. I’ve learned a great deal and touched the lives of many lovely students who have become friends.
