Biography
Dr. Mindy Rice received her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Administration and Education in May, 2018. She has been teaching at Spring Arbor University since 2013 and has taught a variety of nursing courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
Dr. Rice began her nursing career at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in the Emergency Department in 2006. She was an ER nurse for 12 years and also working as an adjunct nursing instructor when she felt led to pursue nursing education in a full-time role. In 2017, she became the Director of the Baccalaureate Pre-Licensure Nursing track in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences and now serves as Chair for that program. She also works at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital in outpatient surgery.
A native of Jackson, Michigan, Dr. Rice still lives locally with her husband, youngest son, and exchange student from China. Her older two boys are nearby and love to come home for “family dinner” as much as possible. In her spare time, she loves camping, gardening, and volunteering at Jackson Christian Schools.
“As far back as I can remember, I wanted to become a teacher. God’s timing was a bit different, though, and I first became a nurse! I find it a privilege, both humbling and rewarding, that as a nurse, I have the opportunity to care for God’s own creation. It is always amazing to me how his plan is so much better than mine. Now he has given me the wonderful joy of both nursing and teaching. How great is his love!”

Why SAU
SAU is a place that I can feel as comfortable as I do at home. I had my first taste of SAU as a student and loved the care that everyone gave me. I absolutely love that the professors and staff pray and refer to Christian principles in every class. When I became a teacher for SAU, I was immensely blessed to be able to bring the Word of God into my nursing classroom. I stay at SAU because I know this is where God wants me. I am grateful it is at a place where we can worship and serve God openly and purposefully!
