I was raised in a Methodist church that observed lent in a lot of beautiful ways. Some of my favorites include our Ash Wednesday service, prayer stations to remember the death of Jesus, and Holy Week. My absolute favorite practice is the foot washing ceremony and Passover meal on Maundy Thursday. I know that feet are controversial and weird, but modeling Jesus’ humble and quite possibly gross act of washing his disciples’ feet is a powerful challenge to accept. Before we do the foot washing, we have a Passover meal which is an amazing time to commune and gather with our peoples!
