Spring Arbor Names John Pigatti Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Spring Arbor University has a new head coach for its men's basketball program, John Pigatti, who brings 38 years of collegiate coaching experience. Pigatti spent the last 20 seasons as head coach at South Suburban College, compiling a remarkable 572-111 record (.837 winning percentage). His resume includes a national title — an undefeated 33-0 season that culminated in the 2021-22 NJCAA Division II National Championship — along with 14 NJCAA Region IV championships, 21 All-Americans, and six National Players of the Year. That success earned him NABC Two-Year College Coach of the Year honors in 2022 and induction into the NJCAA Region IV Hall of Fame in 2023.
Beyond the wins, Pigatti has built a reputation for developing the whole student-athlete. His H.O.O.P.S. program (Highly Organized and Outstandingly Prepared Student-Athletes) helped more than 90% of his players earn four-year degrees, and he's coached at the NCAA level as an assistant at programs including Creighton, Texas A&M, and Western Michigan.
He takes over a program built by Ryan Cottingham, who retired after 27 years and 437 victories at the helm.
Welcome to the Cougar family, Coach Pigatti — we can't wait to see what's next for Spring Arbor men's basketball.
