Spring Arbor University Celebrates Lloyd and Judi Ganton's Impactful Support

Spring Arbor University (SAU) joyously recognizes the generosity and lifelong commitment of Lloyd ’54, ’56 and Judi Ganton ’60 as their leadership and support continue to shape the Spring Arbor experience for generations of students through Ignite: The Campaign for Spring Arbor University.
As longstanding alumni and supporters of SAU, the Gantons have exemplified servant leadership in every way. Lloyd, a graduate from Spring Arbor High School and Junior College, and Judi, a graduate of Spring Arbor High School, have both served on the University’s Board of Trustees and hold the status of Life Trustees. Through their enthusiastic advocacy, they continue to introduce countless friends to SAU, many of whom become significant donors, and support key campus projects that enrich the student experience.
A unique aspect of Lloyd and Judi is their ability to build bridges between the University and the greater Jackson community. “Our job as board members was always to promote the university,” Lloyd said. “Spring Arbor has always been more than a school. It’s a community that prepares young people to ground themselves in faith and make a difference for Christ.”
Their influence at SAU can be seen across campus, reflecting their deep and lasting contributions. For example, Lloyd and Judi led construction efforts for the Burbridge Baseball Field and Walker Track in the 1980s, funded the renovation of the digital sign at the front of campus, and contributed to the mural in the Kresge Student Center by alumnus Rick Herter ’84. The Ganton's name also appears on multiple projects across campus—including the Ganton Art Gallery, the McDonald Athletic Center, Beebe Plaza, the Coffman Center, and the Lloyd and Judi Ganton Commons, home to “The Great Commission” globe structure dedicated to former President and First Lady, Dr. Chuck and Philippa Webb. In addition, they continue to support students annually through their Ganton Art Scholarship.
The Ganton’s legacy is deeply personal too, as six of their children and 11 grandchildren have attended SAU. They’ve purchased 21 commemorative bricks beneath the McKenna Carillon Tower, including one for each grandchild.
Judi’s dedication to Christian higher education and service was recognized by SAU with an honorary doctorate at the 2023 Spring Commencement, and both Lloyd and Judi have been named Alumni of the Year for their faithful support.
Guided by years of strategic planning, Ignite: The Campaign for Spring Arbor University is raising crucial funds for the modernization and expansion of the Whiteman Gibbs Science Center, building a stronger endowment, and providing support for students both now and in the future through the Arbor Fund. Lloyd and Judi have been involved in all three aspects of Ignite. For more information about the Ignite Campaign, please visit www.sauignite.org.
