Spring Arbor University Receives $1.5M from MDHHS for New MSW Students

Spring Arbor University received $1.5 million by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to provide funds for students seeking their Master of Social Work (MSW) degree under the Rural Health Transformation Program.
Through this initiative, Spring Arbor was given two grants to award 76 students with funds to complete their MSW degree at little to no cost. Grant funds are available for both students with a bachelor’s degree in social work and students with other bachelor’s degrees.
“We are honored to be able to provide our MSW students with grant funds that could potentially cover a large portion of their program cost,” said Dr. Brent Ellis, President of Spring Arbor University. “It gives our students the opportunity to grow in their field and impact underserved Michigan communities that desperately need Christian social workers.”
Grant recipients must agree to work for five years in a qualifying Michigan county upon completion of their program. Employment in Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Macomb, Monroe, Muskegon, Ottawa and St. Clair counties do not count towards that commitment.
