Spring Arbor University recognizes Ken Johnson with Honorary Doctorate at Spring Commencement

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Spring Arbor University (SAU) proudly conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during its morning Spring Commencement Ceremony to Ken Johnson, inventor of the globally renowned card game Phase 10 and leader in both business and Christian philanthropy.
Johnson’s influence has spanned across many industries in his career, from gaming and telecommunications to private equity and e-commerce. His entrepreneurial aspirations, rooted in his steadfast faith, have made a lasting impact not only in the marketplace, but also in Christian higher education. At SAU, Johnson’s influence has grown from Spring Arbor Foundation board member to visionary Spring Arbor University Trustee, founding the Spring Arbor Group, an innovative philanthropic private equity fund providing alternative revenue streams for the university.
“Receiving this honorary degree from Spring Arbor University is deeply humbling,” said Johnson. “It confirms a lifelong belief that business and faith can coexist and influence the marketplace. Spring Arbor University has been an incredible partner in that mission, and I’m honored to be a part of its future.”
Spring Arbor University is excited to celebrate a faithful steward in Ken Johnson, honoring his lifetime of achievement, innovation, and dedicated service to Christian higher education.
